Traditional Uses
According to a 70 year practitioner of Herbalism Paul Bergne. Author of Medical Herbalism and founder of the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism, "the usnic acid in Usnea is effective against gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus and Staphylococcus, making Usnea a valuable addition to herbal formulas for sore throats and skin infections. It is also effective against a bacterium that commonly causes pneumonia.
Personal experience with Usnea
I had an infected tooth from a new wisdom tooth that was popping through. I placed three drops onto a cotton swab and directly applied it. A slight burning sensation let me know it was working on the infection. I then took one dropperful orally twice a day and by doing this daily, by day 3 the infection was gone and did not come back.
